Posted on: Monday, 6 October 2008, 18:00 CDT

FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- First Command Educational Foundation (FCEF), a national provider of financial literacy education and scholarships, announced today its Financial Literacy for Texas Teens Workshop, a one-day course for high school economics teachers and educators. The workshop will be held on Saturday, October 18 from 8 AM - 4 PM at First Command Financial Services, 1 FirstComm Plaza, Fort Worth, Texas 76109, and is FREE for all teachers. The workshop will provide teachers with a state-approved curriculum on personal finance education for high school students. In 2006, the state mandated that personal finance education become a requirement for high school graduation. FCEF's workshop will bring together teachers from across the state to learn and discuss the new curriculum. Teachers will receive 6 hours of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for attending the workshop.

The full-day seminar will detail the new state-approved curriculum and will focus on topics including credit, interest, credit safety, resolving financial disputes, retirement, IRAs, annuities, Roth 401k/403b, bankruptcy, entrepreneurship, business and marketing plan development and new business financing. This comprehensive curriculum will provide attendees with all the tools needed to begin providing a state-approved curriculum to teach financial literacy to Texas teens and comply with Texas House Bill No. 492. Attendees will receive a complete set of state-approved curriculum materials, a workbook with supplemental power point presentations and lunch at no charge.

Teachers can get more information and register for the free workshop by calling 877-872-8289 x-2758 or okwade@firstcommand.org. Note: Non-certified educators may attend for a $40 registration fee.
