Literary Specialist Shares Her Knowledge
LEWISTON – Jacque Grenier, a literacy specialist at Longley Elementary School, recently shared with a group of Bates College students her passion for and knowledge about giving schoolchildren the gift of literacy in a workshop about an effective literacy model known as Project Story Boost.
Last year, the Lewiston School District won a Carignan grant through the Harward Center for Community Partnerships at Bates College to purchase books necessary to implement Project Story Boost.
The program is a literacy approach that involves children in book discussions and story retellings and is particularly effective for students who go to school with little or no basic understanding about print.
A group of students, as a part of their first-year seminar with Professor Anna Bartel, will implement the Project Story Boost model with kindergarten students at four Lewiston elementary schools: Longley, Montello, McMahon and Pettengill.
