Mercy College Adopts Five Schools Structure

Posted on: Tuesday, 14 October 2008, 09:00 CDT

Mercy College formally announced it has adopted a schools-based structure. The College previously had eight academic divisions, which will now be reorganized into five schools: Business, Education, Health and Natural Sciences, Liberal Arts, and Social and Behavioral Sciences.

According to Mercy College, the decision to transition to a schools-based structure culminates a two-year process of analysis and development. It was determined that the reorganization would bring notable advantages to students, faculty, and Mercy College as a leading academic institution.

"The schools-based structure reflects the stature and depth of our degree programs, as well as the outstanding quality of our faculty," says Dr. Kimberly Cline, President of Mercy College. "It also offers an optimal structure for continuing to build on the hallmarks of Mercy College: accessibility and positive outcomes."

Dr. Cline also notes that the new structure facilitates the process of curriculum review and renewal, thereby increasing engagement of students and strengthening their educational process.

Mercy College has plans to create additional programming around career services to help students develop an understanding of the types of skills and knowledge needed for their chosen fields of employment. The new organizational structure will facilitate greater efficiency in these and other initiatives, as the College continues to lead students toward success in their academic lives and careers.

The following Interim Deans have been named:

-- School of Business: Professor Wayne Cioffari

-- School of Education: Dr. Andrew Peiser

-- School of Health and Natural Sciences: Dr. Patricia Chute

-- School of Liberal Arts: Dr. Sean Dugan

-- School of Social and Behavioral Sciences: Dr. Hind Rassam Culhane
