The School District of the City of Erie Selects Infinite Campus Student Information System

Posted on: Monday, 20 October 2008, 15:00 CDT

BLAINE, Minn., Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Infinite Campus, Inc. announced that it was selected to provide its student data management system to the School District of the City of Erie (SDCE), Pennsylvania.

The vision for the SDCE is to become the first world-class urban district in the country. To accomplish this, it needed to update its 30-year-old homegrown mainframe system. The district, serving 12,500 students, was awarded a $15 million, five-year grant in April 2007 from GE Foundation Developing Futures(TM) in Education program. One of the many projects earmarked for that grant was to fund a new system.

In reviewing vendors, the district determined that Infinite Campus has the best-in-class scheduling and ad hoc query tools, as well as excellent security for access to information and backup. In addition, Infinite Campus supports meaningful, engaged teaching and learning, strengthens curriculum and instruction, improves student/teacher collaboration, provides appropriate data access to all, tracks student progress, and enhances communication with parents.

Erie School District worked closely with Custom Computer Specialists, the Infinite Campus Channel Partner for the northeast region. "We are pleased that Erie selected Infinite Campus," said Alan Lacher, vice president for Custom Computer Specialists. "Infinite Campus can help them better manage their volumes of data, which will help teachers and administrators make informed decisions regarding the educational progress of each student. We were proud to help them implement this technology."

Erie School District went live in August 2008. "Our consultant from Custom remarked that we had one of the most efficient 'go-lives' he had seen," said Dr. Walt Strosser, Erie's Director of Data Services. "I can confidently say these results were attributable to the extraordinary working relationship we enjoy with GE, Custom, and Infinite Campus."

Erie is committed to optimizing the delivery of individualized instruction and to challenge students to realize their potential. Superintendent Dr. James E. Barker has made data-driven decision making a linchpin of "Redesigning for Success," a model to improve teacher and student performance.

Erie's emphasis on customized learning is not a short-term program. It is the result of recent teacher association, administration and school board efforts to improve student performance, instruction, professional development, and technology. "Redesigning for Success" has produced state- and nationally-recognized programs and initiatives; cutting-edge ideas ensure that all students have the opportunity to learn at the pace and level consistent with their needs and abilities.
