The North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA), the primary voice of the technology industry in North Carolina, announced today that Taylorsville Elementary School in Taylorsville, NC has been selected as the 2008-2009 School Technology Project. The NCTA Education Foundation was awarded $95,350 through a Congressional appropriation of the U.S. Department of Education. The award celebration held at Taylorsville Elementary School hosted U.S. Representative Virginia Foxx, local elected officials, School Board members and personnel, parents and students.

"The NCTA Education Foundation recognizes the leadership of Representative Foxx and Senators Elizabeth Dole and Richard Burr for their strong support of this initiative," said Brooks Raiford, NCTA President & CEO. "This funding will help rural and underserved students within the Fifth Congressional District."

"It is a pleasure to work with the North Carolina Technology Association to bring school technology resources to the rural and underserved schools in my district," Foxx said. "The organization has a track record of improving education and teacher education in other areas of the state and I am excited to bring their private sector experiences and resources to the Fifth Congressional District."

The NCTA Education Foundation Technology Project is designed to infuse low-wealth schools in rural North Carolina with the technology tools needed to implement their technology plans. During the Project year, the Foundation will supply the school with new hardware, software and peripherals while providing all teachers with professional development for the seamless integration of the technology tools into classroom environment.

About NCTA Education Foundation

NCTA and its member companies formed the NCTA Education Foundation, a 501 (c) 3, in September 1998 to support and encourage the use of technology as a tool in education from preschool through lifelong learning. Since then, the Foundation has continued to focus attention on helping to address the technology needs of North Carolina's schools, to better prepare students for the 21st century workforce, and to encourage other schools and public policy leaders to see the advantages of using technology as a tool in education.
