2 Superintendent Finalists Named; Richmond Board Could Have Decision on July 18

Lisbon Two superintendents, one from Neosho and one working in Illinois, have been named finalists to replace Dennis Kruse as superintendent of the Richmond School District.
The two finalists were selected Wednesday after the School Board interviewed five candidates for the job, board President Ken Skarie said.
"I think they bring the experience and background that we're looking for to be able to lead our school over the next three to five years or longer if possible," Skarie said.
The finalists are:
-- James Rice, principal and administrator of the Neosho School District, which has about 200 children in kindergarten through eighth grade and feeds into Hartford Union High School.
-- George Zimmer, superintendent of Nippersink School District 2 in Richmond, Ill. A resident of Burlington, Zimmer was a finalist this year for the superintendent post in the West Bend School District.
The two men were chosen from among 27 applicants, Skarie said.
They are scheduled to be in the Richmond district today for more board interviews and to meet with staff and community members. The board expects to narrow its decision to a single candidate for further interviews, as well as for a visit to the candidate's current school district, Skarie said.
The board hopes to name its new superintendent at its July 18 meeting, he said.
Kruse has been serving as an interim superintendent this year, following his decision to retire in December.
The board's delay in naming his successor helped spur a write-in campaign victory in the April election, in which Eric Christianson beat former board Vice President Karen Schairer.
