ETS Welcomes High School Students in Wharton LEAD Program

Posted on: Wednesday, 6 July 2005, 15:00 CDT

ETS will welcome approximately 40 high school seniors participating in The Wharton School of Business's LEAD Program (Leadership Education and Development) when the group visits ETS's Princeton, N.J., site July 8.

The LEAD Program introduces some of the nation's brightest high school seniors to the world of business. Developed at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School in 1980, the four-week program attracts students across the nation to UP in Philadelphia each July. On average, 30 percent of the LEAD students attend Wharton after graduating high school.

Participants in the LEAD Program attend lectures by distinguished Wharton School faculty and corporate executives, engage in challenging, team-based assignments -- including case study presentations, a stock competition, and the development of business plans -- and visit corporations in Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York City, and Washington, D.C. While at ETS, the students will meet with senior ETS leadership to discuss a variety of ETS operations and initiatives.

"This is a great opportunity to interact with the next generation of business leaders," says Jacqueline Sturdivant, Director, K-12 Solutions, ETS Elementary & Secondary Education Division, and Wharton School graduate, who organized ETS's participation with the LEAD Program. "We hope these students leave with a better understanding of ETS and with the knowledge that they can put their business skills to good use in careers in education."

Along with Sturdivant, ETSers who will be meeting with the LEAD students include Yvette Donado, Senior Vice President of People, Process and Communications; Eleanor Horne, Vice President and Corporate Secretary; Preston Foster, Associate Vice President, Policy Evaluation & Research Center; and Bruce Gilbertson, Vice President of Administration and Wharton Fellow. Topics for discussion will cover areas such as ETS's mission and branding efforts, the ETS/Trenton Community Partnership, and the recent Policy Information Center report on minority students' performance on the SAT.
