School Praised for Giving a Good Start

A COVENTRY fee- paying school which follows a system of teaching developed by an Italian education pioneer has been given the thumbs- up by inspectors.
Ofsted inspectors visited the Kenderdine Montessori School, in Earlsdon Avenue South, Earlsdon, and have just published their report.
The school, in a converted house, has 24 pupils aged from two to seven. Annual fees are up to pounds 3,990.
The inspectors praise the school for giving younger pupils a good start, placing a high priority on pupil welfare, ensuring good behaviour and helping pupils get places at the schools their parents want them to move on to.
The school met almost all the new regulations for the registration of private schools. To meet the rest, the school needs to improve lesson plans, information given to parents and the complaints procedure.
School principal Susan Linnell said: "I am pleased with the outcome. The issues that we have picked up arise, to a large degree, because the inspectors do not have a full understanding of Montessori philosophy and technique and I have already written toOfsted to say so.
"It was something of a disappointment to find that less than 20 per cent of inspectors' time was spent looking at the children being taught.
"Despite that, thanks to the hard work of my staff and the pupils, and thanks also to the support of parents, Kenderdine has scored well on Ofsted once again."
The Montessori method was developed by Italian doctor Maria Montessori and is based on the belief that each child is born with unique potential.
