School Maths Day Adds Up to Success for Primary Pupils

CHILDREN got a chance to figure out if they liked maths at a school taster day.

Primary school pupils attended a maths day at Hurworth School, Maths and Computing College, in Darlington, where they took part in a series of activities and workshops.

The children – from Dodmire, Middleton St George, Firthmoor and Hurworth junior schools – worked in teams to solve puzzles and take part in numerical challenges.

All four primary schools are in Hurworth’s catchment area, and the event is held annually to show incoming pupils what the school can offer.

Teacher Rita Rees said: “It forms part of the link we have to the community, it’s about bringing people in. Maths is our specialism and we try to show pupils from our feeder schools that it can be fun.”
