HARRISBURG, Pa., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- At the 49th Annual Pennsylvania School Counselors Association (PSCA) Conference, the Career Education and Development Committee presented PHEAA with the 2005 Special Recognition Award for "Outstanding Support Of and Partnership With The Pennsylvania School Counselors Association and For Extraordinary Service To School Counselors, Families and Students." This is the seventh year that PSCA has presented its Career Education and Development Awards.
PSCA recognized that "PHEAA remains committed to eliminating financial risk for customers and ensuring that affordable funds remain readily accessible to all students." The organization also noted how PHEAA saves student loan borrowers more than $20 million annually through its Zero Guaranty Fee Policy and provides schools with more than $24 million annually in free administrative services through its advanced student aid delivery products and services.
"PSCA's recognition of our commitment to providing affordable student aid and free college planning tools is especially gratifying because they know better than anyone the unique struggles faced by students and their families," said Dick Willey, AES/PHEAA President and CEO. "Our success has not only enabled millions of students to afford higher education - it has also saved time, money and paperwork for thousands of Pennsylvania schools, providing school counselors with much-needed time to work one-on-one with students who require their experience and assistance."
PHEAA's commitment to serving students, families and schools has led to the continual development of innovative programs, products and services. PHEAA's online college planning solution, EducationPlanner.org, was recently recognized as the nation's best by Forbes.com.
While PHEAA's low-cost student loans make higher education an affordable reality, the innovative AES-Upromise Program helps them save money and repay their student loans faster without spending an extra cent. Schools are also provided access to free online tools such as OneLINK, Account Access, and Exit and Entrance Counseling.

About PHEAA and American Education Services
The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency was created in 1963 as an independent public corporation to provide students and their families with affordable access to higher education.
In order to fulfill our public service mission, we've grown into a competitive national financial aid services organization with $57.5 billion in assets under management serving millions of students and thousands of schools through our guaranty, servicing, grant and financial aid processing systems. Doing business throughout the nation as American Education Services (AES), the funds generated from our business operations are used to improve education
opportunities and lower the cost of attendance for Pennsylvania students while streamlining the entire process for the higher education community.
As a self-funded organization with operations similar to a not-for-profit business, AES/PHEAA provides more than $120 million annually in public service benefits to Pennsylvania families -- including the nation's lowest-cost student loans and powerful Internet-based solutions -- at no cost to taxpayers.
