Aug. 9--GIRARD -- Mercyhurst College has leased office space on East Main Street, where planning and fundraising for the new west county campus will take place.
F. Brady Louis, the recently named special assistant to the president, will work out of the office, 259 E. Main Street, which is a two-story white house.
Louis, who will coordinate the efforts of the college and the west county community, said school officials are waiting for phone lines to be installed.
Louis will occupy a small first-floor office on the west side of the building.
"There's two desks and two chairs, and that's it. It's just for sweet old me. That's where I'll be hanging my hat," Louis said.
"It's going to work out very well. It will give us a presence in the west county, which we all agree is important and necessary."
Fundraising for the new school will begin in September.
Members of the Mercyhurst West Community Action Committee, comprising residents of the Girard area, have been told the college must raise between $800,000 to $1 million to build the new campus.
Mercyhurst paid $1.85 million for the 400-acre tract, which straddles eastern Girard Borough and the township off Route 20.
Louis said he's going to be spending his time in Girard, but also will make trips into Lake City, Albion and Springfield Township to promote the new college.
