NEW YORK, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Princeton Review, an educational services provider, has announced a new reading and math curriculum to address the needs of students in grades 2-8 who face academic difficulties. Aligned to state and national standards, SideStreets is designed to meet the needs of after-school, summer school, and during the day intervention programs. The program is now available across the country.
"We anticipate that educators, students and parents will find SideStreets appealing. The curriculum uses engaging material and a cast of compelling characters to build on the latest pedagogical tools in assessment, instruction, and professional development," said John Katzman, The Princeton Review's CEO.
Using SideStreets, students acquire both content-area knowledge and study skills that they can apply to their classroom learning and assessments. The instruction encourages goal setting and provides guided instruction, discussion, hands-on activities, practice, study skills, problem-solving, and self-reflection. Students use journals to communicate their understanding of concepts and strengthen their grasp of vocabulary.
SideStreets provides teachers with instructions on how to use the materials and how to deal with learning challenges. The Teacher Edition is easy to use, flexible, and supportive of new teachers or those teaching outside their subject area of expertise. There are suggestions in every lesson for integrating English Language Learners and special education students into the classroom. There are also suggestions on how to tailor instruction for students with differing learning modalities.
A unique Parent Guide focuses on activities that parents can do with their children to complement the lessons. SideStreets even has a bilingual component. Since mastery of math is not dependent on language proficiency, students are allowed to take their Pre- and Post-Course Assessments in Spanish.
The Princeton Review is a successful intervention program provider and one of the largest formative assessment providers in the country, working with many states and districts, including the New York City Department of Education, the state of Tennessee, the School District of Philadelphia, and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
