Lesley University's Learning Community Programs Make It Easy for Adults

Too often, highly motivated adults wishing to go back to school have busy schedules that preclude them from attending weekly classes.
"There are so many adults who decide later in life that they wish to pursue a degree," said Dr. Barbara Vacarr, director of Lesley University's Learning Community Bachelor's Adult Learning Division. "Some are going to college for the first time and some are seeking to continue their education."
Frequently, these individuals have special interests that might not be served in a traditional academic setting. Lesley University's Learning Community programs provide a way for women and men to pursue an undergraduate or graduate degree with minimum disruption to their work or family lives. This flexible, innovative program allows students to specialize in their own specific areas of interest while maintaining personal commitments. In close collaboration with faculty, students develop and carry out an integrated and relevant degree plan. The Learning Community program alternates seven-day residencies with six-month periods of independent study. Students attend two residencies each year and can complete the program in two years. Graduating students return at the end of their last semester to present their final project.
"The Learning Community program is perfect for any adult deciding to attend school," said Vacarr. "The residency schedule allows people to really do it all - go to school, go to work, have a family and have a life. In an age when quality time is so important, an option like this is really necessary."
Open houses on the Learning Community Bachelor's program will be held Sept. 25 and Oct. 30. Upcoming bachelor's residency dates are Sept. 24-30, Oct. 29-Nov. 4, March 25-April 1 and April 22-28.
An open house for the master's program will be held Oct. 30. Master's residencies are Oct. 30-Nov. 4 and April 23-28.
Admissions for all Learning Community programs are on a rolling basis.
