Students at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (Uwic) know they have made a great university choice and the Times Good University Guide agrees with them; it recently declared Uwic top ‘new’ university in Wales.

Students say they choose Uwic not just for its favourable reputation, but also because it offers relevant courses closely linked with industry and the professions. Of course many students also choose Uwic so they can be based in Cardiff! As those lucky enough to live or work in the city know, it has all the facilities you would expect from a capital city, but it’s not as expensive as most other cities.

Teaching takes place at Uwic’s four campuses all close to the city centre. They are linked by Uwic’s own bus service, the UwicRider, which also ferries students in and out of the city centre to enjoy Cardiff’s great shopping and nightlife.

Uwic is one of the UK’s top sports colleges – so its sports facilities are first-class. If you’re not the sporty type don’t worry, there’s plenty of social life there apart from sport. Uwic Students Union runs campus bars and events, countless societies and clubs, plus it has its own city centre night-club and bar.

Uwic has about 9,000 students, full-time and part-time, studying courses from certificate and diploma level through to degree and postgraduate level. So it’s small enough to be student friendly but big enough to have a vibrant student scene.

Nine academic schools provide teaching at Uwic:

School of Applied Sciences

Cardiff School of Art & Design

Uwic Business School

Cardiff School of Education

School of Health & Social Sciences

Welsh School of Hospitality, Tourism & Leisure

School of Lifelong Learning

School of Product & Engineering Design

School of Sport, PE & Recreation

Whatever your interest, if you are looking for a university place call Uwic’s advice line 029 2041 6040, and the advisers will do their best to find you a place on a course to suit you.

You could spend the next three years having the time of your life, finishing your studies with a graduation ceremony at St David’s Hall in Cardiff.

Think about it – there may only be a phone call and a few years of interesting, stimulating study, between you and a qualification that will be the springboard for your future career!
