Pace University Reaches an Agreement With Ruckus; Gives Students Access to Music, Movies, and Groundbreaking Social Network

Posted on: Tuesday, 6 September 2005, 06:00 CDT

This month, Ruckus was selected by Pace University to be the official digital entertainment network for the New York area school. This agreement will give Pace's 13,000 students unlimited access to Ruckus' media assets - including movies, music, and TV - as well as groundbreaking ways for students to share their media and personal profiles with one another.

For $14.95 per semester, all students, faculty and staff at Pace will have unlimited access to a library of over 1.2 million songs, educational offerings, and Ruckus' community and social networking applications that allow students to find and interact with friends and legally share downloaded music.

"The Ruckus digital entertainment network is an alternative to illegal file sharing," said Frank Monaco, Chief Information Officer at Pace. "We decided to look for options among the many downloading services out there after learning of the possibility of a small number of our students being sued for illegal downloading."

In addition to their digital music service, Ruckus also offers a digital video service, a feature which allows free downloads of Hollywood movies and hit television shows for less than the cost of a DVD per semester. The rate for the Ruckus movie service is $19.95 per student per semester. If a student chooses to take advantage of both the music and movie service, the rate is $29.95 per semester

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to provide Pace students a forum in which to legally access and share digital media, and use that media to interact with each other," said William J. Raduchel, CEO and chairman of Ruckus. "We have worked hard to provide a service that allows students to safely find friends and socialize, upload their own creative and original content, and download a variety of legal movies, music and television programming."

Ruckus offers:

-- National, local, and campus based programming

-- 1.2 million licensed tracks of music from major labels and indies

-- Hollywood blockbusters, cult classics, and independent films

-- Robust community features that allow students with similar music, video and programming interests to connect, share and explore on their campus.
