Ue Sees Hike in Students

Fall enrollment at the University of Evansville is 2,676 students, a 5 percent increase from fall 2004, university officials announced.

UE’s school of business administration is one of the major beneficiaries of the increase. Business majors have doubled since last year, said Tom Bear, vice president for enrollment services.

New business students include seven from other countries and 15 minority students. Nineteen have an average SAT score of 1250 and were named Business Scholars, a merit scholarship funded through the University’s $15 million Lilly Endowment grant.

Other new business majors include two National Merit semifinalists, one Lilly Scholar and 11 students who were ranked first in their high school class.

“This is one of the most diverse and academically qualified group of business students we have had,” said Robert Clark, dean of the School of Business Administration.

Other facts about fall 2005 UE enrollment:

* UE students come from 41 states and 40 countries.

* The freshman class of 670 students is UE’s largest since 1997.

* Full-time undergraduate students, including UE students enrolled at Harlaxton College in Great Britain, is 2,434, up 141 students from last fall.

* Graduate student enrollment is up 22 percent. UE offers advanced degrees in physical therapy, health services administration, public service administration and computer science and engineering.
