N.M. Schools Get $229 Million; Oil, Gas Taxes Finance Projects

SANTA FE -- Nineteen New Mexico school districts were awarded more than $229 million Wednesday by the Public School Capital Outlay Council for school construction and improvements.
Revenues from taxes on oil, natural gas and minerals financed the school construction awards.
"To make sure our schools work, we have to have infrastructure, we have to have better buildings," Gov. Bill Richardson said at a Capitol news conference.
Following is a list of school districts' awards:
Alamogordo, high school heating and cooling system renovations, $3.3 million;
Albuquerque, construction of a new high school, $25.7 million;
Albuquerque, West Mesa High School renovations, $5.6 million;
Animas, elementary and middle school renovations, $8.2 million;
Bernalillo, Placitas Elementary School renovations and additions, $2.2 million;
Bernalillo, Cochiti Elementary School renovations, $805,641;
Chama Valley, construction of a new middle school/high school, $9.3 million; Cobre, Snell Middle School renovations, $5.9 million;
Cuba, elementary school renovations and additions, $4.1 million;
Deming, construction of two new elementary schools; $16.8 million;
Espaola, construction of a new elementary school, $4.1 million;
Gadsden, Gadsden Middle School renovations and additions, $9.8 million;
Gallup, John F. Kennedy Middle School renovations and addition, $14.1 million;
Gallup, Gallup Middle School renovations, $4.8 million;
Gallup, construction of new middle school, $22.3 million;
Hagerman, middle and elementary school renovations, $454,995;
Jemez Mountain, Lybrook Elementary School additions, $2.4 million;
Las Cruces, Desert Hills Elementary School renovations, $1.9 million;
Las Cruces, Hillrise Elementary School renovations, $771,900;
Las Cruces, construction of new elementary school, $9.5 million;
Las Cruces, Central Elementary School renovations, $1.3 million;
Las Cruces, Hermosa Heights Elementary School renovations and addition, $2.7 million;
Las Cruces, planning and renovations of new high school, $7.4 million;
Pojoaque, construction of a new intermediate school, $1.7 million;
Rio Rancho, construction of a new high school, $46.9 million;
Roswell, Sierra Middle School renovations and addition, $5.7 million;
Ruidoso, construction of a new middle school, $5.5 million;
Silver, Cliff School renovations, $821,536;
Silver, La Plata Middle School renovations, $854,257;
Silver, Silver High School renovations, $4.7 million.
