The University of Phoenix is starting a bachelor's degree program in elementary education this fall.
The program is the first campus-based bachelor's degree in education offered by the University of Phoenix, a for-profit institution focusing on nontraditional students and working adults interested in changing careers. The program starts this fall in Phoenix and Tucson and should expand to Yuma by the end of the year.
The elementary education program is a response to the teacher shortage in Arizona and is geared to train teachers who are immediately ready to move into a classroom.
The program consists of 120 credit hours, including 100 hours of field work and eight semester hours of student teaching.
Classes start the last week of October, and registration is still open.
