The Interim University Center at College of the Canyons keeps adding new programs, with three additional ones being offered next year.

The Art Institute of California, Los Angeles, will bring a bachelor of science degree in interior design to the Santa Clarita Valley through the Interim University Center beginning in January.

"The Art Institute of California's interior design program responds to one of our community's highest expressed interests," said Barry Gribbons, University Center administrator.

According to the Interim University Center, all programs through the Art Institute have been accredited by the Accrediting Council for the Independent Colleges and Schools.

In the spring, National University will begin two bachelor's degree programs - one in nursing and one in allied health. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges, as well as the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, have accredited both programs.

"National University's nursing and allied health bachelor's programs respond to critical health care needs of our community and assist professionals in advancing in their careers," Gribbons said.

The Interim University Center currently offers eight bachelor's degrees, seven credentials, seven master's degrees and one doctorate in majors such as liberal studies, communication and areas of education and business administration.

The Interim University Center boasts more than 8,000 students and 500 graduates in its history, and currently plans to build a permanent University Center on the College of the Canyons campus.

"Through these new programs and all of the other current and future bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs, we are committed to expanding higher education opportunities to meet the needs of our community," Gribbons said.

Information meetings will be scheduled for all new programs, and dates will be posted on the Interim University Center's Web site at www.canyons.edu/universitycenter as they are scheduled.
