CINCINNATI, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) has awarded Chad P. Wick, president and CEO of KnowledgeWorks Foundation, the distinguished Friend of Education Award.
"I am very pleased that Chad Wick is being recognized for the contribution that he and KnowledgeWorks Foundation are making to improving education in Ohio. In a few short years, Chad has quickly put KnowledgeWorks on the national map as a Foundation that gets things done with particular attention to equity, community building and making sure that every child truly gets the education they deserve. The Foundation is a national leader in the high school reform movement, in creating new pathways to college and in creating new opportunities to design schools as centers of community. I am pleased to be one Chad's biggest supporters. He has a passion to improve education and the skill to make his passion a reality for children all across Ohio," said KnowledgeWorks Foundation board member and former Secretary of Education Richard Riley.
The Friend of Education Award is one of the highest honors given by the national education organization. The award recognizes an organization or individual whose work may be outside the realm of education policy and education systems, but whose contributions to public education are significant and enduring. Previous honorees have included Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates and his wife Melinda (2002), Intel Corporation Vice-President Keith L. Thomson (2000), and Paula Harper Bethea, Chair Emeritus of the United Way of America's Board of Governors.
"I congratulate Chad on receiving NASBE's Friend of Public Education Award," said Susan Tave Zelman, superintendent of public instruction. "His dedication and leadership in education are appreciated throughout Ohio."
"I am honored to accept the National Association of State Boards of Education's Friend of Education Award, said Chap P. Wick. I am truly humbled to be in the company of such exceptional innovators in education and will continue working to improve public education."
The Friend of Education Award is given annually to recognize individuals or organizations whose efforts on behalf of education are deemed to be of outstanding benefit to the students in the nation's schools. The award is being presented at NASBE's national conference in Phoenix, Arizona on October 14, 2005.
