WHAT: The 16th Education Trust National Conference No Time to Waste: Raising Achievement, Closing Gaps

Thursday, Nov. 3
-- 12:30 p.m. - Kati Haycock, director of the Education Trust, will talk about accelerating high school improvement and highlight success stories at the secondary level.
-- 1:45 p.m. - Concurrent Sessions (including): Presentations from high-performing, high-poverty, high-minority high schools on gap closing strategies and techniques that produce tangible results with students who arrive to high schools behind. Presenting high schools include Granger High School, Granger, WA and Jack Britt High School, Fayetteville, N.C.
-- 4:45 p.m. - Honoring Session, Dispelling the Myth Awards, Third Annual "Dispelling the Myth" awards presented by US Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings to the following schools for their work to raise achievement and close the achievement gap: Dayton's Bluff Achievement Plus Elementary School, MN; Elmont Memorial Junior- Senior High School, NY; Frankford Elementary School, DE; Rock Hall Elementary School, MD; University Park Campus School, Mass.
Friday, Nov. 4
-- 10 a.m. - Concurrent Sessions (including): High-performing schools from Minnesota, New York, and Pennsylvania on improving achievement and narrowing gaps and Delia Pompa, National Council of La Raze, Hector Sanchez, Education Trust, and Eduardo Cancino, on the raising achievement among Latino students.
-- 11:30 a.m. - Plenary Session: Barbara Byrd-Bennett, CEO, Cleveland Municipal School District; Jesse Register, Superintendent, Hamilton County Schools; Adam Urbanski, President, Rochester Teachers; Russlynn Ali, Director, Education Trust-West on the equitable distribution of teacher talent.
Saturday, Nov. 5
-- 10 a.m. - Closing Plenary Session: Hedrick Smith, Executive Producer and Correspondent, Hedrick Smith Productions, will show highlights from the PBS documentary, "Making Schools Work," describe what these schools tell us about school reform and discuss what educators, the public, and parents can learn from the schools and districts that are reaching the children too long neglected by our systems of public education.
