The Diocese of Rockville Centre, NY, One of the Largest in the U.S., To Roll Out PowerSchool’s Web-Based Student Information System in 53 Catholic Elementary Schools

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y., Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The Diocese of Rockville Centre announced today that it has chosen PowerSchool as its student information system (SIS) for the Dioceses' system of parochial and regional elementary schools beginning with the 2005-2006 school year.

Rockville Centre is the eighth largest Diocese in the country, consisting of 133 parishes located throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island, NY. PowerSchool will be implemented in 53 elementary schools over the next three years and will benefit approximately 22,000 student users and 1,400 teacher users. PowerSchool SIS will increase opportunities for interaction between families and schools, which is elemental for the success of all students.

Currently, nine schools within the Diocese are using PowerSchool daily to track attendance, enter grades electronically and to monitor individual student achievement. By 2008, all 53 schools will be using the system at varied levels. The parent and student portal, which gives parents and students anytime, anywhere access into individual student progress through a password protected login, will be an added critical component as schools begin to adopt additional system features.

"PowerSchool enables administrators and teachers within the Diocese of Rockville Centre to further student achievement by offering a holistic view into individual student progress on a daily basis," said Sister Joanne Callahan, Superintendent of Schools. "The Web-based model makes real-time information accessible for parents, students, teachers and administrators who, in turn, will be able to make informed and timely decisions on behalf of the child."

PowerSchool makes reporting easier for administrators and teachers by centralizing data and removing redundant clerical duties so student achievement can remain the focus. PowerSchool will also unify school curriculum and generate electronic report cards.
