The proceeds from the auction will help TQNYC, an award-winning non-profit organization recognized by Learning and Technology magazine and applauded by Mayor Michael Bloomberg; continue to provide after school education to New York City school children. TQNYC's annual challenge invites teams of up to six students in grades 3-12 to work together using multimedia technology to create well-researched, interactive, educational websites on an educational topic of interest to them. Under the guidance of teacher-coaches, teams gather data, conduct research and learn about the Internet as an educational medium while they build educationally rich sites. The entries become a permanent part of the ThinkQuest New York City Web Library (www.tqnyc.org/library) and are available to teachers, students and Internet users worldwide. Last Year, 4,000 students participated in the ThinkQuest NYC Challenge.
"Today's children are tomorrow's engineers, scientists, executives and entrepreneurs - our future workforce," said Lisa Ernst, executive director for TQNYC. "TQNYC gives every child who participates in its programs the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to compete for tomorrow's jobs. That's why companies such as Best Buy and NBC Universal support this important program."
TQNYC's mission is to continue to have a significant impact on a school system that supports more than 1 million children, their families and 80,000 teachers.
