Dec. 24--WILKES-BARRE -- Wilkes-Barre Area School District's internal investigation into allegations of misconduct by a Meyers High School teacher has been completed and an announcement regarding the issue will be released after the holidays, a school official said Friday.

The teacher, whose name has not been released by school officials, has remained out of school since Dec. 8, the day after the allegations surfaced, said Wilkes-Barre Area School District Superintendent Jeff Namey.

Namey said school officials have spoken with everyone involved, including the parents of the student making the allegations, and the teacher.

Namey has not disclosed the nature of the allegations, but has called them "troubling." He said the information that led to the investigation initially did not come to him from the student.

Namey has said the school district would turn the matter over to police at the conclusion of the investigation if it's warranted. On Friday, he wouldn't say which way the district was headed.

The superintendent said the school district will issue a press release on the matter when classes resume after the holiday break.

School board members have not commented on the investigation.
