Jan. 4--Parents wishing to enroll their children outside their "home schools" will have 28 non-magnet choices this month during the annual student assignment application period.
The 28 schools have room available for the 2006-2007 academic year.
Several of them are among the top academic schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg system.
Barringer, Eastover and Lansdowne elementary schools, along with Jay Robinson Middle, were named Honor Schools of Excellence last year in the state ABC testing program. At each school, at least 90 percent of students scored at or above grade level in reading and math.
Three other schools -- Joseph Grier Academy, Lincoln Heights Elementary and Northeast Middle -- were named Schools of Distinction, with at least 80 percent of students scoring at or above grade level.
For information about the student application period, call (980) 343-6759 or check www.cms.k12.nc.us .
