St. Francis Students Start School
By The Dominion Post, Morgantown, W.Va.
Jan. 5–St. Francis Central School’s 390 students returned to school Tuesday for their first full day of classes at their new location. On Monday, students spent two hours at the school — now located off U.S. 119 South — taking tours, inspecting their classrooms, and organizing their desks and lockers. The $12.9 million, 64-000-square-foot facility includes a cafeteria, gymnasium, chapel, library, computer lab, music room and art room. With two classrooms for each grade, the school will be able to house up to 500 students. Students have been on Christmas break since Dec. 16, the last day they attended the school in Evansdale. The extended holiday break gave teachers in the K-8 school a chance to relocate school supplies. When the school opens in the fall, it will also include pre-kindergarten classes. The school building that was the previous home of St. Francis has been sold to WVU. WVU’s associate vice president of facilities, Joseph C. Fisher, has said that the university has no firm plans for that building.
