A CONVICTED paedophile teacher was cleared to work at all-girls schools - because he was only attracted to boys.
Keith Hudson compiled albums of indecent photos of boys aged seven to 18.
He was placed on the sex offenders register - but later given the go-ahead by then Education Secretary Estelle Morris to teach girl pupils.
She put Hudson on List 99 - the teacher blacklist - with the condition that he could work in all-girl schools.
There is increasing pressure on Education Secretary Ruth Kelly to remove from ministers the power to vet teachers. She came under fire for the clearing of sex offender Paul Reeve to work at a Norfolk school. Science teacher Hudson got off with a fine when he was convicted of having indecent material in 1998. A psychiatrist said: "The risk of sexual behaviour with real boys must remain a future possibility."
But the report said any ban should only relate to schools with male pupils. Hudson now offers one-to-one tutoring from his home in East Sussex. Shadow Education Secretary David Willetts said: "The confidence of parents in the current system is disappearing." As she went for a walk near her home in East London yesterday Ms Kelly refused to comment.
