Jan. 15--The Union County Board of Education approved the appointment of three new school principals this week.
-- Tom Bulla is the new principal of Middle School B, the Marvin-area middle school under construction. Bulla, who was principal of Union Elementary, begins his new position effective immediately. That's because he will be working on logistics of opening the school, school administrators said. "B" won't open until January 2007, but a naming committee is under way and another task force on the school meets later this month.
Bulla received his doctorate of education from UNC Charlotte. He also holds a bachelor of arts in education and master's degree in school administration from the school. Principal of Union Elementary since 2002, Bulla has previously worked as an assistant principal at Wesley Chapel Elementary and as an elementary school teacher.
-- Kevin Plue is Union Elementary's new principal. Plue, who takes Bulla's place, was previously an assistant principal at Wesley Chapel Elementary.
Plue received his master's degree in school administration from UNCC and a bachelor of science in secondary education/social sciences from Athens State University in Alabama. Assistant principal at Wesley Chapel since 2002, Plue has taught social sciences at Charlotte-Mecklenburg's Northwest School of the Arts, and at three high schools in Georgia.
-- Stephanie McManus will be the principal at Wolfe School. McManus is currently assistant principal at Marshville Elementary. She will replace Larry Tuggle, who is retiring at the end of January.
McManus received a bachelor of arts in English literature and language/secondary education, and a master's degree in school administration, both from UNCC. McManus has worked as an assistant principal at both Weddington and Marshville elementaries. She joined Union County schools in 1991 as an English and journalism teacher at Parkwood High. She has also worked as a curriculum coordinator and summer school director.
