Posted on: Monday, 16 January 2006, 06:00 CST

Text of report in English by independent USAID-funded Sudan Radio Service on 16 January

[Presenter] A humanitarian agency in Kenya has closed a secondary school in Kakuma refugee camp following a protest by the students.

The Lutheran World Federation closed Kakuma secondary school last week after the students peacefully demonstrated against the head teacher's administration style.

Kakuma refugee secondary school is one of five secondary schools in the camp with over 700 students, most of whom are Sudanese refugees.

Our correspondent in the camp, James Magok, reports that the Kenyan police oversaw the closure of the school.

[Magok] The education authorities in the camp has brought Kenyan police to the school this morning to close the school. The cause of the closing down the school was the students demonstration against the headmaster Mr Jack Bron Brawa. The students have refused the administration of the headmaster.

[Presenter] According to the director of education in the camp, Mark Bayol, the school will remain closed until further notice.

Mister Bayol says that the ringleaders of the demonstration will be punished according to the law.
