Tuition and fees: In-state: $1,847.38; out of state: $6,814.88. Room and board ranges from $2,975 to $3,206, depending on the meal plan a student chooses.
Academic credentials: UNCW is organized into five departments of study, including the College of Arts and Science, the Cameron School of Business and the Watson School of Education.
Many students choose the College of Arts and Science, which offers programs in anthropology, art and art history, foreign languages and literature, biology and marine biology, communication studies, sociology and criminal justice and many others.
With 73 undergraduate degree programs and 28 graduate degrees, UNCW has a variety of academic programs designed to meet the interests of all students.
U.S. News & World Report ranked UNCW one of the top 10 Public Comprehensive Universities in the South.
Campus life: With a thriving campus and the beach only minutes away, UNCW is becoming one of the most popular universities in North Carolina.
Many students bring their bikes, in-line skates and skateboards with them to the college.
Weekends offer events on campus, including movies, concerts, intramurals, outdoor programs and sports clubs.
Fraternities and sororities are active here, as well.
The Seahawks have 19 varsity athletic teams for men and women.
And, of course, there is the beach, where many students spend their leisure time enjoying the sun and water.
Admission requirements: The average SAT score is 1160 to 1230 (new SAT scores are not available). The average GPA is 3.63.
Scholarships: Merit-based scholarships are available, and recipients are chosen by the Faculty Honors Council from student applications. These scholarships are normally equivalent to in- state tuition and fees.
