Police Head Off School Violence
January 17, 2006
Fears of pupil violence forced teachers at a Lanarkshire school to ask police to stand guard in the playground, it emerged last night.
Police were called in after teenage gangs used the internet to organise a fight at Calderhead High School in Shotts. The incident on Friday came days after a brawl at Hamilton Grammar School, also in Lanarkshire, involving about 30 pupils.
Senior staff at Calderhead High received a tip-off that teenagers from another school planned to fight its pupils within the grounds.
