Cash Donation Helps Budding Musicians Strike the Right Note

Posted on: Thursday, 9 February 2006, 12:00 CST

Pupils at a Welsh primary school have been learning music on new instruments thanks to money donated by a local company. Youngsters at Bryn Deri primary school in Cardiff, used GE Healthcare's annual donation to buy some new musical equipment.

Their new keyboards are being used to help the school deliver quality music education to its pupils, in line with the national curriculum.

Schools across Cardiff have been given almost pounds 8,000 by GE Healthcare to help buy new equipment.

Tongwynlais Primary School used its pounds 750 donation to buy digital camcorders, which are now being used to record and exhibit memorable events at the school.

GE Healthcare is also establishing an on-site education centre where classes will be invited to take part in a range of exciting scientific experiments.

The centre will complement the site's science resource library which was launched only last year. This is a a free service enabling local teachers to borrow scientific equipment for a few weeks at a time.

Jan Sperandeo, from GE Healthcare said, 'Supporting local schools and encouraging interest in science amongst children is really important to us, and we are delighted to see the tangible benefits that our donations are providing locally.

'Through our financial backing and also the provision of additional resources, we aim to provide teachers and pupils alike with vital support, helping to encourage educational development in Welsh schools.'
