For alumni of Bloomingdale School District 13, their alma matter offers more than just memories of math tests, notes passed between classmates, or construction paper crafts.
The district is also offering former students some help in creating new memories - as they head off to college.
Right now, four annual scholarships are up for grabs through several District 13 organizations. College-bound high school seniors who once attended District 13 schools may apply.
Two $500 scholarships are being offered by the DuJardin and Erickson elementary schools' Parent-Teacher-Organizations. Westfield Middle School is also offering two $750 scholarships: the Student- Teacher-Parent organization scholarship, and another award from former Westfield social studies teacher Jay Perkins, in memory of his late wife, Patti.
Even for ambitious alumni, however, there are rules.
Past students of both DuJardin and Erickson may apply to only the school most recently attended. Students who attended one of the elementary schools and Westfield Middle School may apply to the elementary school as well as to Westfield.
Applications are due April 7. A committee will select the winners by evaluating each student's application, grade point average, introductory letter and letters of recommendation. Winners will be notified in early May.
Applications are available at Lake Park High School's East Campus, 600 S. Medinah Road, and West Campus, 500 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., both in Roselle. Driscoll Catholic students can also pick one up at the high school, 555 N. Lombard Road, Addison.
Applications also can be downloaded from the district's Web page, www.sd13.org. For details, call the District 13 office at (630) 893- 9590.
