Mark McClellan, Head of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), to Give Update on Medicare Part D at MCPHS Conference

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences has announced that Mark McClellan, Administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), will deliver a keynote speech on the progress of Medicare D at the College's 66th Annual Howard L. Reed Conference. The event will be held on March 9, 2006 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.
Over 700 pharmacists from throughout New England are expected to attend the all-day Conference, which will also include seminars on the future of community pharmacy, an update on pharmacy law, and clinical presentations covering a variety of topics.
A physician and award-winning healthcare economist, Dr. McClellan has led CMS in its rollout of the historic Medicare Part D drug benefit, which began January 1, 2006. His presentation, "Medicare D: The First 60 Days", will chronicle the implementation of Medicare D, and the vital role pharmacists play in the success of the program.
"The Reed", as it is known, honors Dr. Reed for a lifetime of dedication and service to the College and bears his name in recognition of his role in conceiving the program in 1941. It was established as an opportunity for pharmacists to keep abreast of changes in the profession and for alumni to visit their former teachers and new faculty.
Founded in 1823, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is a private coeducational college offering graduate, professional and undergraduate degrees in pharmacy and health sciences. With campuses in Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts and Manchester, New Hampshire, MCPHS is the oldest institution of higher education in the City of Boston and its pharmacy program is the second oldest in the U.S. Professional or undergraduate degrees are offered in pharmacy, nursing, physician assistant studies, dental hygiene, radiologic sciences, environmental science, health psychology, chemistry, and premedical and health studies. Graduate programs are offered in drug regulatory affairs/health policy, drug discovery and development, pharmacy systems administration, pharmaceutical sciences, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacology. The College enrolls approximately 2,800 students, who are drawn from 32 states and 30 foreign countries, and employs more than 300 faculty and staff.
