NEW YORK, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Education is the issue that matters most to the majority of New Yorkers, according to a poll released Friday.

The poll, jointly conducted by local TV New York Channel 1 and local paper Newsday, found 22 percent of the respondents said education was their number one issue. Number two on the list is the economy, with 19 percent, followed by health care, with 17 percent.

In general, New York State registered voters think that education, the economy and jobs, and health care should be given the highest priority.

Health care is of greater concern to those with no college education, (23 percent) than to those with a college degree or more (13 percent). Those with a college degree or greater are most concerned with education (25 percent) and the economy and jobs (20 percent.

This telephone poll of a random sample of 1,885 New York State residents has a margin of error between 3 and 5 percent.
