The following took place at the Aiken County School Board's Feb. 14 meeting:
The board reviewed the district's financial reports for October, November and December. The reports included the following: statement of revenue, expenditures and cash position; monthly record of tax receipts; monthly record of delinquent taxes. The report also included the status of investments in the following funds: general fund; school building fund and school food service fund.
The board approved the registration and enrollment of a group of 38 French pupils whose parents are employed by Areva Company and are moving to Aiken. The families' request that the pupils attend three Area One schools has been approved. The schools are Chukker Creek Elementary, Kennedy Middle School and South Aiken High. Areva will provide instructors for the pupils' French classes to be held in the schools for the 2006-2007 school year.
Leavelle McCampbell Middle School will receive an additional $10,000 in funding from the South Carolina Department of Education for professional development initiatives to assist the school in improving its absolute report card rating.
Uyen Griffis, a preschool special needs teacher at Clearwater Elementary School, received a $3,000 grant from the Sertoma Club of North Augusta. The grant will be used to purchase a Smart Board Interactive Whiteboard.
North Augusta Elementary School has received $1,000 from the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation to be used to purchase additional materials and supplies to support the school's academic program.
Redcliffe Elementary School received $1,000 from the Wal-Mart Foundation. The school will use the award to purchase additional materials and supplies to support the school's academic program.
North Aiken Elementary School will receive $1,000 and North Augusta Middle School $1,500 from the Kimberly-Clark Foundation for academic programs in recognition of company employees and spouses who have volunteered their time in support of the schools.
The Wal-Mart Foundation has awarded grants to North Augusta Middle School in the amount of $1,000 and Hammond Hill Elementary in the amount of $1,100 for the purchase of computers and technology equipment to support the school's academic programs and to provide staff development.
North Augusta Middle School has received a $1,000 donation from the BI-LO Charity Classic. The donation will be used for the purchase of additional instructional materials and supplies.
The next school board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at the district office, 1000 Brookhaven Drive, in Aiken.
