Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c34427) has announced the addition of Public Schools K-12 - Industry Profile to their offering

About 17,000 US public school districts with 95,000 schools provide primary and secondary education for 50 million students, and have a combined annual budget of $350 billion. School districts vary greatly in size. The 100 largest school districts serve nearly 25 percent of all students; 90 percent of US school children attend public schools while 10 percent attend private schools.

Demand is driven by population demographics. The success of individual schools depends on the quality of instruction, which is sometimes linked to the attitudes of the surrounding community. Schools in affluent communities may receive more local funding support and be able to offer a wider range of instruction.

Public schools provide education in basic subjects through a curriculum that is relatively similar in all schools. Students are usually grouped by age. A typical school district with 5,000 students has six elementary schools (grades K-5); two middle, or junior high ,schools (grades 6-8); a high school (grades 9-12); and an annual budget of $35 million. The average public school has 530 students, but elementary schools are smaller (450 students) and high schools are larger (750 students). The average student/teacher ratio is 16:1. The high school graduation rate for public school students is almost 70 percent.
