Mar. 17--The University of North Dakota said today it is proposing a tuition increase of 9 percent for the 2006-07 academic year.
It's not the only increase pitched by UND that's on the table. The others:
-- A tuition increase of 12 percent for the School of Law.
-- An increase of 8 percent for the School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
-- A 5 percent increase in the general student fee.
-- An average 6.25 percent increase in the various room and board rates.
No increase was proposed for individual program fees, UND said.
UND officials say the increases are proposed to help offset higher energy expenses that are expected to increase costs roughly $1.5 million.
The proposals will go before the state Board of Higher Education this spring, according to university, which made the announcement today in a news release.
UND says its tuition increase proposal falls within the range predicted by the school last year as part of the University System's multi-year planning process.
