In its 2006 annual Entrepreneurship Program ranking, the research firm, Entrepoint ranked the entrepreneurship program at Temple University's Fox School of Business among the top 13 programs in the U.S. This is the 3rd consecutive year that Entrepoint included The Fox School at the top of its annual list of the 100 most comprehensive collegiate entrepreneurship programs in the U.S. Previously, this survey was published in Entrepreneur magazine.
"Entrepreneurs are the drivers of our economy today," said Fox School of Business Dean M. Moshe Porat. "At the Fox School of Business, we strive to infuse both the spirit and skills of entrepreneurship in all of our students, so that students have expanded options when they join the working world."
The Fox School's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute (IEI) serves as Temple University's gateway to the entrepreneurial world. The IEI's educational activities include the following themed conferences: entrepreneurship for women, science and technology, entrepreneurship in the arts, and social entrepreneurship, as well as special workshops and seminars throughout the academic year.
The IEI does more than just teach students how to prepare business plans. Through an extensive network of business leaders, seasoned entrepreneurs and investors, the IEI connects Temple's aspiring entrepreneurs with mentors and advisors. Its annual 3-stage Business Innovation Competition, now in its 8th year, identifies outstanding new ventures, and the IEI provides incubation services to its most promising start-ups. A new Mid-Atlantic Diamond Ventures business accelerator, the region's only year-round venture forum, enables early-stage science and technology companies to present to venture capitalists five times per year.
"The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute serves students, faculty, staff and alumni throughout the University. We are proud that Temple is the highest-ranked university in Pennsylvania for excellence in entrepreneurship," said Chris Pavlides, Executive Director of the IEI. "The support and interest we have received from colleagues and students in the science and technology disciplines, key areas of innovation, are particularly strong."
Another important component of the entrepreneurship program at The Fox School is its consulting practicum for MBA students, which includes the award-winning Global Entrepreneurship in Technology course for International MBA students and the new Enterprise Management Consulting practicum required for all other MBA students. For these consulting projects, MBA students provide professional-grade business plans, market entry strategies, and critical research and analysis for emerging businesses, non-profit organizations, and divisions of major corporations for client companies throughout the world.
The Annual Collegiate Entrepreneurship Program Rankings were compiled from a combination of primary survey information from faculty, center directors, deans and program heads, along with public secondary data culled from college program catalogs, viewbooks and Web sites.
