ASCD to Host 2006 Annual Conference and Exhibit Show in Chicago at Lakeside Center

The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) will host the 2006 Annual Conference and Exhibit Show in Chicago at Lakeside Center at McCormick Place.
The ASCD Conference provides an opportunity to gather resources for coverage on major education issues and make connections with experts, authors, and practitioners for future interview sources and leads. More than 13,000 educators -- from classroom teachers to superintendents -- will attend over 550 sessions that feature experts on virtually all aspects of learning and teaching.
ASCD, headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, is one of the largest professional development organizations for education leaders with more than 175,000 members in 135 countries.

-- General Session Speakers: Educational expert Mel Levine, leadership coach and author Bonnie St. John, and historian and psychologist Neil Howe.
-- Other featured speakers: U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Department of Education Ray Simon, education expert Sarita Brown, distinguished lecturer Carl Glickman, and education reformer Deborah Meier.
Various events and sessions include:
-- The Conference kicks off at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2006 with Books & All That Jazz-An ASCD Annual Bash. Chicago public school officials will accept books donated by attendees and sponsors for Chicago Title I public schools.
-- The annual ASCD Outstanding Young Educator Award will be presented at the opening general session to an educator who has advanced excellence and equity in teaching and learning.
-- Closing the Achievement Gap Through Postsecondary Education -- A panel will discuss practical guides and new models to encourage students to stay in school.
-- Ten Trends You Cannot Afford to Ignore -- Presenters will discuss trends that will shape educational delivery systems of the future and the implications for schools.
-- Their Voices Matter: Keys to High School Student Engagement -- This session will advise participants on how to give disengaged students a sense of belonging.
-- Becoming a Teacher of Excellence: Strategies of Award- Winning Teachers -- This session offers insight on what it takes to rise above being average to become a distinguished teacher.
