Three Students From Western Will Attend Governors School

Three students from Western Alamance High School have been selected to attend a Governors School this summer.

Anna C. Hudson and Michael A. Puchley will attend a program in natural science, and Carolyn A. Langley will attend an instrumental music program.

The Western students are among eight high school students from the Alamance-Burlington School System who will attend a Governors School.

The six-week program is designed for students who have been recognized for their academics and intellectual talent in one of 11 areas, including art, music, drama, mathematics and foreign languages.

Each school system is allotted a certain number of participants based on its population. Students must be nominated by their superintendent, charter school director or private school headmaster.

The program is funded by the North Carolina General Assembly.

The Governors School of North Carolina, which will be held from June 18 to July 29 at Salem College and Meredith College, is the nations oldest statewide summer residential program for gifted high school students.
