EVERY secondary school in England will receive a copy of Michael Palin's best-selling book Himalaya as part of a drive to make geography lessons more interesting.
The pounds 2 million scheme was unveiled by ministers and aims to improve the way the subject is taught in schools.
TV experts Nick Crane, from the BBC's Coast, and Nick Middleton from Channel 4's Surviving Extremes, will act as on-line "ambassadors" for the subject, ministers said.
Along with geography specialists from businesses and universities, their job will be to help enthuse children about the subject. Teachers will have better training in how to run fieldwork as well as access to a new website.
Ofsted recently said geography was the worst taught subject in schools.
