University of Northern Iowa President Honored By Politicians

Apr. 6--DES MOINES --- Retiring UNI President Robert Koob was honored Wednesday by the Iowa House and Senate for his 11 years of contributions to the university.
He spoke on the House floor about how investments in education have big rewards.
"The investments you make today compound into the future and you'll be very grateful looking back at the investment you've made," Koob said.
He compared the state's investment in education to his own retirement savings, noting the way that compound interest rewards long-term thinking.
"More of 70 percent of the funds that will assure that I have a reasonably secure retirement were contributed in the first 50 percent of my career when I was making the very least," he said.
He was joined by his wife, Yvonne.
Koob was introduced in the House by Reps. Willard Jenkins, R-Waterloo, and Bob Kressig, D-Cedar Falls.
"It's truly an honor today to recognize President Koob," said Kressig.
In the Senate, Sen. Jeff Danielson, D-Waterloo, spoke about how Koob helped get Waterloo and Cedar Falls to act as partners, rather than rivals.
"What President Koob did was ask us to put our differences aside and work together as the Cedar Valley," Danielson said.
The House and Senate approved a resolution thanking Koob for his service.
"Under his leadership, the University of Northern Iowa has experienced a phenomenal level of institutional development," said a portion of the three-page resolution.
