Apr. 16--Rwandan President Paul Kagame will speak April 26 to Oklahoma Christian University students, faculty and supporters.
Also during the luncheon, Kagame will be awarded an honorary degree and the university will announce a scholarship program for Rwandan students.
Kagame also is scheduled to address a joint session of the Oklahoma Legislature that afternoon.
OC President Mike E. O'Neal invited Kagame to the university during a visit to Rwanda in 2004.
OC sent 12 students to Rwanda in 2005, and it is planning to send five students to the country this summer, along with several faculty members and their families.
"President Kagame has worked to bring peace and stability to Rwanda," O'Neal said. "From all reports I've seen, he is really trying to advance their economy and root out all corruption in the government."
A limited number of tickets for the luncheon at $50 each are available by calling Kerri Williams at 425-5100.
All proceeds from the luncheon will be used to provide scholarships for Rwandan students.
Centennial Suite to debut The first centennial celebration of its kind in the state will be held Saturday at East Central University with the premiere of the "Oklahoma Centennial Suite" by Ada composer W.T. Skye Garcia.
The suite will be performed by the ECU Wind Ensemble under the direction of Allen Correll at 7:30 p.m. in the university's Dorothy Summers Theatre.
The concert is free to the public.
For decades, Oklahomans have remembered and celebrated April 22 as the day of the great Oklahoma Land Run.
ECU and the Ada Arts Council will host the concert on that anniversary to launch the celebration of 100 years of statehood.
Ex-ambassador to speak Former U.S. Ambassador Edward J. Perkins will speak at a conference for underrepresented students at Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday at the Wellness Center on the Weatherford campus.
The conference will be from 9 a.m. to noon. It is open to the public.
Perkins served as President Clinton's representative to the Commonwealth of Australia from 1993 until 1996.
Perkins then became the executive director of the International Programs Center at the University of Oklahoma where he continues to serve as the director as well as the William J. Crowe Chair Professor.
