Military MBA Adds Two New Assessments; Assembles Education-to-Employment Package for Officers Transitioning Out of the Military

Posted on: Tuesday, 9 May 2006, 12:03 CDT

MilitaryMBA.net is expanding its line of graduate school and employment preparation resources for transitioning military officers interested in pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) education and career. The MBA Math primer from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, and the Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), now join CareerLeader Assessment from Harvard Business School in the MilitaryMBA.net resource suite. Combined, they provide officers with a comprehensive set of online preparation resources from top MBA schools.

The MBA Math course, created by Dartmouth Professor Peter Regan, prepares students for the rigorous math and quantitative analysis coursework found in most MBA programs by providing a requisite foundation in finance, microeconomics, statistics, and probability. An accounting module is scheduled to be added this month.

The Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT), available at no charge, is an intuitive decision-making test developed by MIT Professor Shane Frederick. CRT measures good/bad judgment in assessing financial risk-reward opportunities. The three-question, 90-second test is being used by Military MBA to evaluate future leadership talent.

Military MBA is implementing both new resources because of their high relevance for military officers transitioning into graduate business education and future careers.

The MBA Math primer has proven its worth to military officers. According to Darin M. Souza, a Tuck MBA student and United States Military Academy (USMA) graduate: "The web-based tools are perfect for a JMO transitioning to business school." A former Army officer added, "I served for five years in the Army...and made extensive use of this course before starting graduate school."

In an interview last month with SmartMoney Magazine, MIT Professor Frederick explained the CRT, "...has an amazing correlation with people's ability to evaluate risky propositions and to (quickly) sort out the time value of money."

Transitioning military officers can take the CRT at no charge, and receive additional information about the online MBA Math course and other resources, by visiting http://www.militarymba.net/officerprep.html
