May 10--In celebration of National Teacher's Day on Tuesday, Wal-Mart honored 4,000 teachers nationwide, including 14 from Orange County.
Each teacher will receive a $1,000 educational grant for their school and a $100 gift certificate to buy supplies for their classroom.
One teacher was selected as the local winner from each Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and Neighborhood Market across the United States. Winners were nominated by community members and then selected by a committee of store employees.
Honorees have the opportunity to apply for state Teacher of the Year and win an additional $10,000 grant. All state winners are then automatically entered into the national competition, with an opportunity to win a $25,000 grant.
