On the Record: Students Graduate With Perfect Attendance

Jun. 3--KELLER -- Megan Cudaback accomplished something rare.

From her first day of kindergarten at Keller Elementary School in 1993 through her final day as a senior at Keller High School, she did not miss a day of school. Cudaback, 18, was one of at least two students in Northeast Tarrant County with perfect attendance during their public school careers.

Over time, she watched as friends were sidelined by common childhood illnesses.

"I was fortunate to not get sick to the point when I needed to have to miss school," she said. "Some kids don't care about coming to school and skip all the time. But I like coming to school."

Brian and Laura Cudaback are proud of their daughter.

"As parents we tried to instill in her that it is important to go to school, but it is something she likes to do," said Brian Cudaback. Megan wants to be a teacher and hopes to attend college in the fall in Wichita Falls.

Even in Sandy Murphy's Keller Elementary kindergarten class, Megan had the makings of a teacher.

"She was a very happy, lively, take-charge kind of child," Murphy said.

Amanda King, who graduated in May from Haltom High School in the Birdville District, also had perfect attendance in grades kindergarten through 12. School officials said that King plans to attend Tarrant County College.
