Jun. 6--New undergraduates and their parents visited WVU's campus Monday for a day of New Student Orientation.
WVU is expecting about 4,600 freshmen -- another record fall enrollment -- the largest freshman class in the school's history, according to Tracia Petty, director of undergraduate recruitment.
Becky Lofstead, director of News and Information services at WVU, said more than 600 students and parents were on campus Monday.
"Sessions run until Friday, and there are other one- and two-day sessions this month and in August. All together, there are 18 sessions," Lofstead said.
Participants learn the ropes of WVU life, go on campus tours, register for fall classes, meet with academic advisers, get their photos taken for their ID cards, take placement exams and attend an information fair, said Regan Bruni, orientation coordinator.
The fair will feature representatives from various WVU services, including housing, financial aid, student accounts, Web services, the Carruth Center for Counseling and Psychological Services and Mountaineer Parents Club.
Most sessions offer optional overnight lodging at one of the university's residence halls, and extended programs include a sampling of WVUp All Night activities.
Other orientation sessions are June 12-16, June 19-23, June 26-28 and Aug. 15-16. Info: http://www.arc.wvu.edu/new_student_orientation/index.htm or call 293-2264.
