Jun. 7--STOCKTON -- San Joaquin Delta College trustees voted Tuesday to enter into agreements giving the school the option to buy 140 acres on Liberty Road for a future satellite campus in northern San Joaquin County.
Trustees voted 5-2 in closed session in favor of giving President Raul Rodriguez the authority to sign the contracts.
Delta already has signed option agreements to purchase 168 acres east of Lodi for a new campus. The Liberty Road site, between Highway 99 and Lower Sacramento Road, is just south of Galt and would offer programs different from those offered in Lodi, according to school officials.
Delta College officials have until December to determine if the property is suitable for a satellite campus.
Delta College district voters approved a $250 million bond in 2004 to pay for upgrades at its main campus and expand throughout the county. Trustees originally envisioned a single north county site, but new enrollment projections now have them considering separate facilities near Lodi and Galt.
How trustees voted was not immediately available Tuesday. A press release, however, reported that Trustees Dan Parises and Janet Rivera made the motion and second to give Rodriguez the signing authority.
