Jun. 26--Seventy-three high school students received scholarships totaling more than $52,000 from Bellingham Dollars for Scholars.
The scholarships, given out in June, come from local donors, including the Thomas & Martina Horn Foundation and the BP Cherry Point Refinery, as well as community service clubs, individuals, memorial funds and high school staff and alumni.
Scholarships were given to 30 students from Squalicum High, 25 from Bellingham High and 18 from Sehome High.
The Dollars for Scholars program also has partnerships with colleges nationwide, which provide matching funds or agree not to reduce a student's financial aid package because of the scholarship.
